BAIMP Project Idea.

Right heres another idea to throw into the mix. Its general aura is modeled around the ipod advert theme. I have used the classic iconic lightbulb image to exemplify that ‘one’ is engaged within a train of thought; hence the ‘i think’ caption at the base of the image. The caption itself also resembles the ipod brand to create a more authentic feel. The black silhouette of the figures function to support the nature side of the brief. The figure on the left also helps to divert attention towards the lightbulb through use of arm gesture, thus creating a focal point.

When first brainstorming this idea, i tried to think about rhythm and movement. And so, i decided to implement dispersing beams of light from the light bulb to draw the eye accordingly.

BAIMP Project Idea.

Right this is another idea i’ve been tinkering with, not quite sure if I’m going to use it yet though. The text for me may need to be manipulated further to become more connected with the flow of the light trails.

BAIMP Images Project Ideas

This is the original idea from my sketch book which has evidently inspired the works of the image below.

And the development on photoshop…

This is another rough idea i have. The image again, needs some more work but i quite like the contrast in colour between the black and white background and the pupil. The light trails within the eye generate a focal point in which to engage the eye.

Paradox – 1 day project

This is the idea for the one day project. The concept was to create a brand which encapsulates using technology in environmentally friendly ways using the slogan ‘paradox’. I was originally aiming for a logo, but came up with more of a brand image. The clovers have on them, low opacity set switch boards that demonstrate technology. As for the slogan paradox, i wanted made the lettering stand out in order to make it memorable.

Although the image does work, I’m not so sure it connotes effectively to the 15-25 year old target audience. Perhaps a change of text would have benefited the overall make up of the brand. It doesn’t engage clear thought into using technology in an environmentally friendly way. But the idea is a good starting point to build upon.

As I’ve been busy focusing on the practical side of the course, thinking up ideas and gathering material, the inevitable theory side has been looming in my unconscious. So, today I had a read of a few articles from the recommended reading section of the images brief. I have also re-familiarised myself with the key points discussed in the key note lectures.

Yet again its hard to know how much depth to go into when studying theory, too much and you end up drowning yourself in irrelevant material, and too little, you may disregard key concepts. Thus finding a balance is essential. I haven’t yet found this balance, it’s going to take a while but I think I may well benefit from a work timetable!

BAIMP Images Project: Ideas

I’ve been trying to conjure up some fantastical ideas to edit on photoshop for this images brief. Problem is, the ideas I have far exceed the skill to which i can operate photoshop:S The first idea i have is of a solar system that is interconnected with a serious of wires. Thus in simple, emphasizing that technology and nature are in some way interlinked. I’m yet to come up with the more definitive explanation of the iconography the image communicates but ill get there!

The second image is based on the notion of deforestation, although very undeveloped, the idea has a fair bit of potential. The primitive idea is that we utilize our technology to acquire natural materials for survival; shelter, warmth and other essential functions.

The next idea is in some respects a development of my first idea. Its main focal point is an atlas which is used to represent nature. However instead of places, the atlas is mapped by a vast array of images, and/or snippets of technology. The intended concept is that homogenization is swamping our culture and clouding our perception of what reality really is.

As for text, the question has been asked of technology, ‘friend or foe’ The answer can be seen as rhetorical in an effect to engage thought.

This is the development of the above idea, but instead of using a globe, i have used an image of the earth. Both of the above ideas mentioned have played a vital role in the formation of this idea. The Image is not yet refined and needs some work doing. The text ‘technology’ has been used as dummy text for the moment until i reach a desired text.

I’ve been practicing on Dreamweaver today using Will Goldstone’s online tutorials; very helpful indeed! There’s a lot of information to take in and i think it will be a while before i grasp a solid understanding of the programme but so far so good!

Nature/technology Idea

This photoshop image combines elements of nature and technlogy to create a metaphorical journey (the journey being the pace at which we have advanced technologically through time). The ‘technological’ wires demonstrate a link with nature, showing how our culture has become increasingly united through vast advancements in technology. ‘It is now possible to send an email from one side of the world to the other in a matter of seconds’.

For this image, i wanted to create my own background rather than using a stock image, in the hope of improving my photoshop skills. And so, used a noise effect to render the background with stars, and then played with the image adjustments untill i reached the desired effect.

I then used a few stock images of planets to create the effect of a solar system before linking them together with a serious of wires, which were also manipulated to create a blurry effect.

Overall, the image needs further development but i’m happy with its general concept.

University Blog!

Initial reactions to university: Absolutely loving the social side, there’s so much to do! Spent far to much money on alcohol, and as such have no recollection of the past two weeks or so! Still can’t get over the fact that a friend thought it would be a good idea to launch himself from the second floor of a house in student village. Perhaps he thought he could fly…he was so wrong!

On the downside lectures have begun, and I’m actually having to use my brain after a year of doing nothing! At first glance, there is a ridiculous amount of information to consume, i honestly don’t know where to start! But, as I keep reading the unnecessarily wordy theoretical viewpoints, things are beginning to click.

I’m trying to find some iconic images right now and I’m over-thinking, once-again! Came across the BBC’s self explanatory slogan and thought it would be a good example to upload onto the ‘Ouricons’ archive.
